MEATCAKE 2.0

31 Dec

A final salute to Tony Wu. He is leaving us here in Chi for Philly. For a proper send-off, I baked this meat cake. Oh lord was it delicious.

MENORAH MODERN

9 Dec
Here is my design for the Steelcase Menorah + Wreath competition. It’s clean lines, clever design and DIY inspired roots seemed to be a shoe-in as tops this year. I have to say, I think this is probably one of my best designs. This was produced with the following tools: chop-saw, drill, saws-all and a mitre box.

But alas, a piece bullshit NON-MENORAH eyecandy from SOM took first prize. Their entry was not a menorah, but rather an elaborate vacuumed-formed, CNC cut candelabra that could only be produced in SOM’s high-tech model shop. With total disregard for the Jewish faith and ceremony, they took it. Which leads me to believe that, as always, a total defiance of rules will always win a competition.

SCHOOSTING IN THE SHOP

14 Oct

Always ever present of my need to hone my “hunter-gather” skills, Chadwick and I made great sport of blasting small objects from 30 ft. Normally one wouldn’t condone the use of weapons and booze, but fear not, it was only a BB gun and the targets were not breathing.

TO DINE ON A PANDA

7 Oct

I always wanted to chow down on an endangered species… although this panda tasted a lot like cake.

WHAT I DO WHEN I’M BORED AT WORK

30 Sep
Some people doze off, I like to render shipping containers in unlikely scenarios…

OVER THE EDGE

21 Sep

I got to go up to the new sky deck at the Sears Tower (to hell with Willis). I got to say, it’s unnerving to know that the only thing seperating you and a 1,000 ft fall is a 1″ piece of glass and my Chuck Taylors.

RECLAIMING THE STREET

18 Sep

Just outside my office at 600 W. Jackson in Chicago, a group of urban achievers has claimed a street side parking stall for themselves. By plugging the meter and laying down a nice swath of grass, they have created a bit of an oasis on an otherwise busy west-loop street.

NYC Guggenheim Competition – Frank Lloyd Wright Pavilion

25 Aug
-human nest-

Based on the idea of ‘nesting’ humans within nature, this pavilion anchors to the cliffs of the Blue Mountains in Australia. The design constraints do not allow for more than 100 s.f. and no services. You can locate the model herein google earth.
